I’m excited to share that a flash sci-fi story of mine, “The Person Behind The Symptoms”, has been published in the June 2025 edition of The World of Myth Magazine.

“The Person Behind The Symptoms” is a contemplative science fiction story about memory, empathy, helplessly watching one’s loved ones suffer, and the quiet resilience of connection.

The story is, at least in part, inspired by my personal experience of having loved ones who suffer from (or had suffered from) Parkinson’s disease and dementia. Earlier versions of the story was far more autobiographical and closer to real life. I couldn’t get it published and ultimately decided to give it more of a speculative angle. I think the final draft ended up being stronger. I guess it’s true what they say about packaging the truth in the lie – stories should be fiction, but they must tell the truth and be inspired by real life in order to carry emotional weight and reveal psychological truths about the human experience. Working on this story helped me realise this.

Thanks for following my blog. I look forward to writing to you soon.

Cheers, MK.
