My kortverhaal “Ontkoppel” is in die September 2023 uitgawe van Naskrif gepubliseer. Dis geinspireer deur die foto hierbo, die eerste Apple Vision Pro demonstrasie videos wat ek gesien het ‘n paar weke tevore asook al die bohaai wat oor die Metaverse gemaak was en die remote working kultuur wat alreeds begin posvat het wêreldwyd.

Ek wil nie ‘n ludiet wees en nuwe tegnologie vrees nie, maar die goed laat my wonder… veral oor die impak wat hulle het op ons menswees. Dit kom met allerhande beloftes van meer keuse, genot, en gemak, maar kunsmatige realiteit bly… Kunsmatig.

My short story “Ontkoppel” (Disconnect) was published in the September 2023 issue of Naskrif. It was inspired by the photo above, the first Apple Vision Pro demonstration videos I saw a few weeks earlier, as well as all the fuss about the Metaverse and the remote working culture that had already begun to take hold worldwide.

I don’t want to be a Luddite and fear new technology, but these things make me wonder… especially about the impact they have on our humanity. They come with all sorts of promises of more choice, pleasure, and convenience, but artificial reality remains… Artificial.
